What if you need snow chains?
Due to the warm climate and very white winters in Spain it is very rare for cars to be equipped with winter tyres. The opposite is true in northern European countries, where in some countries like Austria, Hungary, Romania and many others they are compulsory for several months a year.
It is clear that driving on winter tyres is the best option, but just in case it is always good to know how to mount the chains.
The first step is to make sure we have the right chains before we go on a trip. Make sure that the measurements indicated on the snow chain box are the same as those on our tyres.
We can find several types of snow chains on the market, although the most common ones are those with links and those made of fabric. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.
The chain ones are the ones that almost everybody knows and they grip very well on roads with ice. The disadvantage is that they are difficult to assemble, produce vibrations when driving, are heavy and take up a lot of space.
Cloth chains are much easier to assemble, but lose efficiency when there is a lot of snow. They have to be removed as soon as they touch asphalt as they break quite easily. Recommended for use on short stretches.
Although the assembly is not completely complicated, it is always advisable to practice putting them on before leaving on a trip.
