El Vergel, or El Verger in Valencian, is a small village in the Marina Alta region that is located next to the coast but at the same time has very close mountain areas. It is therefore a village with a remarkable variety of tourism and leisure activities.
In this area you can easily find campsites, rural houses, hostels, flats and hotels. Many of these establishments are not located within the village but within its boundaries, bordering the beach areas that are preferred by tourists.
Although tourism is very important in the local economy, so are citrus and vegetable crops.
Its growth has not been as extraordinary as that of other towns, as throughout this century its population has only increased from less than 5,000 inhabitants to just over a thousand.
