This town, which is a dependency of its neighbour Denia, at a distance of about 4 kilometres away, has about 10,000 inhabitants. The houses are generally newly built, although their history goes back about two centuries. However, their greatest growth, as happened in so many towns on the coast of Alicante, was mainly due to the prosperity brought by tourism.
In La Xara there are a good number of residences, villas, flats… which are rented out to tourists who are mainly interested in the next coastal area. From this town the most visited beaches are Les Marines and Les Bovetes.
The main interests offered by the area, apart from the beaches, are the visits to other nearby towns, especially if they coincide with their major festivals, or the excursions that can be made on foot or by bicycle to mountain areas. Therefore, the leisure offer in this type of towns that are not on the beach is usually a mixture of culture, traditions, gastronomy, popular festivals and excursions.
